Option 1: Using Another Sign-In Method
Try Alternate Login Methods: On the login screen, check for options to enter a PIN or see if another user account has administrative privileges.
- Click on "Sign-in options" if available.
- Select the alternate method.
If you are able to log in then continue below to reset the main account's password:
- Press Win + X on your keyboard.
- Select Computer Management from the menu.
- In Computer Management, select "Local Users and Groups" in the left panel.
- Right-click on your locked account and choose "Set Password".
Option 2: Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Restart the computer and as soon as it begins to boot, repeatedly press the F8 key. Choose "Safe Mode with Command Prompt" from the menu.
- Log into an account with admin privileges. A Command Prompt should open.
- Type:
net user [username] [new password]and press Enter. Replace[username]with your locked account name and[new password]with your desired password.
Option 3: Use Utility Tools (High Risk)
- On another computer, download a tool like Offline NT Password & Registry Editor.
- Follow the instructions on the webpage to create a bootable USB drive.
- Insert the USB into the computer and restart the PC.
- Be ready to boot to USB by tapping the correct F Key for your PC (normally F9 or F12).
- Follow the on-screen instructions to reset your password.
Once done, restart your computer and attempt to log in using the new password.
Option 4: Factory Reset (Data Loss)
If you can access your hard drive by connecting it to another computer, make sure to backup all essential data.
- Restart the computer.
- Repeatedly press the F8 key to access the recovery environment.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to reset your PC to factory settings.
